Cairdeas aims to facilitate the growth of palliative care in the developing world.
It works alongside existing and emerging services:
supporting education, training and curriculum development
offering specific clinical expertise, such as mentoring and service design
raising the profile of palliative care needs
Our main method of working is through funding specialist consultants, normally based in the UK, to work overseas for periods ranging from a few weeks to a few months at a time.
We also facilitate partnership working and the sharing of expertise between interested parties involved in developing world palliative care, in particular between HIV/AIDS and cancer/palliative care services.
The countries where we are currently most active are India and Uganda.
There is a very informative article about the work of Cairdeas from the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care
