Host a Cairdeas Party

A Cairdeas Party is a great opportunity to tell people about the work of Cairdeas, and support artisans and traders in the developing world by selling their products, while having an enjoyable time with your friends and neighbours.

Almost all of the products available at the parties are produced in the developing world. We purchase directly at a fair price from artisans in employment projects that are part of habilitation and rehabilitation of people with HIV/AIDS or with physical disabilities, or street work and slum projects. All the profits from the parties are invested in our palliative care work in the developing world.

We have some delightful bangles made by Rajvan in Rajastan, India. They were commissioned by Cairdeas and so far as we know are not sold anywhere else in the United Kingdom. Also in stock are a wide selection of beautiful scarves, bangles and the very popular paper bead necklaces. Many of the products are hand-made and are therefore unique. All would make great Christmas presents!

Hosts are provided with information about the work of Cairdaes and are given a pack with lots of information and advice about hosting the party. All you need to do is provide refreshments and invite people to come along.

Hosting a party has a great number of benefits - you are supporting community projects in the developing world by buying their products at fair prices, it raises the profile of Cairdeas with friends and family, it raises funds for Cairdeas, and you have a great excuse to have a party!

If you would like to host a party or just find out more about them then please contact Jacqui Mackintosh on 01224 276293 or at info@cairdeas.org.uk

Become a Cairdeas rep

You may feel that all of Cairdeas’ work is overseas. But in fact an important part of Cairdeas’ mission is to raise awareness in the UK of the need for effective palliative care in developing countries. And we are of course dependent on those who share our concern to support the work of Cairdeas.

To this end we are encouraging our supporters to promote Cairdeas in their particular situation – for example at work, in their local church or other organisation they are a part of, or maybe just among their friends and neighbours. And this is where you could step in: with just a small time commitment, you could encourage your friends and colleagues to find out more about the work of Cairdeas. For example, you could:

Cairdeas will give you all the support and resources you need. You and your friends really could make a huge difference to people's lives as you enable others to join with us and bring hope to people at a time of real need in their life.

If you are interested or just want to find out more, without making any commitment, then please contact Jacqui Mackintosh on 01224 276293 or info@cairdeas.org.uk.

Alison runs in the London Marathon 2011

Our huge thanks and congratulations to Alison Grove who ran in the London Marathon last year, raising over £400 for Cairdeas. As she says:

'I got a place via the ballot and decided to use it as an opportunity to raise money for a couple of charities I support regularly - obviously including Cairdeas. It was a fantastic day; in fact it was a bit too warm for a marathon, but the showers and hoses of the Greenwich firemen helped! The crowds were amazing and kept a smile on my face for most of the way round! It was my first go at a marathon. so I was quite pleased do it in 4 hrs 12 min 31 sec or, as I like to think of it, only about 1 minute behind Matthew Pinsent.' (We think that's brilliant!)
